Leslie Welch, a man of unwavering faith and devotion, was born on September 2, 1951, in Mobile, Alabama, to Reverend Dave and Mrs. Lottie M. Welch. Raised in the church, he was deeply rooted in his spiritual upbringing under the guidance of his father. Leslie grew to become a reverend himself, serving with dedication at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. He was a kind man with a sweet soul, always willing to lend a helping hand. Although he was an independent and private person, Leslie cherished time spent with his family and valued the simple joys of life.
Leslie attended Trinity Gardens School in Mobile, excelling from grades 1 through 11. Due to family circumstances, he relocated to Oakland, California, where he graduated from Fremont High School, Class of 1969. He was a talented athlete and musician. Leslie played several instruments, including percussion and brass, and mastered the drums and trumpet.
After high school, Leslie returned to Mobile and briefly attended S. D. Bishop State Jr. College before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership.
Leslie later joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves, where he quickly rose to the rank of sergeant. The couple eventually settled in Houston, Texas, where they resided happily for over 30 years until Sharon’s untimely passing.
Leslie continued his education and graduated from the University of Phoenix, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning. Driven by his passion for ministry, he also studied seminary to deepen his spiritual knowledge and service to others.
Throughout his life, Leslie cherished the bond he shared with his children and grandchildren, including his devoted daughter, Tiara Welch Sesay, and his grandchildren, Gabrielle and Gavin Sesay, who brought immense joy to his life.
