Mae Joyce Williams, born on December 16, 1940, in Crockett, Texas, to the late Johnnie Lee and Velma Jackson Tillis, embodied a life of faith, love, and devotion to her family and community. Growing up as the third child and second daughter among ten siblings, Mae Joyce's spirit shone brightly from her early years. She completed her education at W.R. Banks High School and embraced her faith from an early age, being baptized at New Salem Baptist Church in Grapeland, Texas.
In her journey through life, Mae Joyce was united in marriage with Ellsworth Williams on May 1st, 1960. Their enduring love spanned five decades, until his passing. Together, they shared numerous cherished moments, including a memorable trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where they celebrated their love in a horse-drawn carriage and enjoyed a romantic spa vacation with their special daughter. Mae Joyce was known for her culinary skills, especially her famous German Chocolate Cake, which she lovingly baked for her family, always making sure “Bud” had a fresh baked cake. The pink house on Gessner was a warm and welcoming place, radiating the love shared by Mae Joyce and Ellsworth.
Throughout her life, Mae Joyce held various jobs, from working in a dry cleaner to serving the church community. Sister Mae Joyce Williams LOVED Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church! She was a dedicated member actively contributing to its growth and vitality. Mae Joyce assumed multiple roles within the church, such as being a drill team ambassador, youth supporter, Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, and benevolent committee officer. Her grace, vibrant attire, and infectious laughter made everyone feel at home in her presence. Mae Joyce's energy and enthusiasm for church activities had a positive impact, inspiring many individuals on their spiritual journeys.
Mae Joyce Williams' legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
