Mrs. Jettie Beatrice Sims Sullivan

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, & Friend

Jettie Beatrice Sims was born on June 22, 1944, to O. D. Sims and Ethel B. Donnell, in Lubbock, Texas. As a small child, the family relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where she attended the local schools, and graduated from Wheatley Heights High School, in 1966.

On August 22, 1967, she married the love of her life, James DeLeon Sullivan, Sr.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, in San Antonio, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor J. J. Rector, Sr. In 2006, she relocated to Houston, Texas and became a member of Southwest Community “The Bridge” Christian Center, under the leadership of Dr. Greg J. Patrick.

She earned an associate’s degree from St. Phillips Jr. College, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Business and Public Administration, and a master’s degree in Business Management, from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University.

Mrs. Sullivan was employed with the San Antonio Housing Authority, and she was also employed as an educator and school liaison for San Antonio Independent School District. In addition, she was a writer for three local newspapers: San Antonio SNAP, San Antonio Register, and the San Antonio Informer.

She was active in several organizations: Negro Business and Professional Women, San Antonio Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (AKA), Gamma Tau Chapter, Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Seasoned Seniors of Southwest Community “The Bridge” Christian Center, Houston, Texas, and the Houston Chapter of AARP.

She is preceded in death by her Husband: James DeLeon Sullivan, Sr.; Parents: O. D. Sims and Ethel B. Donnell Sims; and her Son: James DeLeon Sullivan, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted Children: Andre DeLeon Sullivan, Sh’Dawn Nicole Sullivan, Dedrick Joseph Sullivan, Cheryl Johnson Thompson, and Felicia “Lisa” Johnson; Grandchildren: Josh Grilli (Canada), De’Azha Sullivan, Deidra Sullivan Barnes, JaCaria Sullivan (Austin, TX), Kianna Sullivan, Gabrielle Sullivan (Dallas, TX), Indigo Sullivan, Noe Martinez (California), Javantate McCadney, and baby Semaj Sullivan (due September 2025); Adopted Sisters: Dorothy Johnson and Mary Stamps, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
