Mrs. Flossie Mae Hubbard Johnson

Beloved Queen Mother, Grandmother, and Friend

Flossie Mae Hubbard Johnson was born on September 27, 1914 in a small community known as "Blackland", near the town of Trinity, Texas, the fifth of six children born to Lonia Dorn and Garfield Hubbard.

Flossie was educated in a one room Trinity school house, along with her sisters and brothers, and she was a member of the CME church before moving to Fifth Ward in Houston, Texas.

She met and married the late Wayne Wright Johnson. They lived in Houston, then Seattle, WA, before settling back to Houston. Flossie was an active member in the community and her church, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, serving on various Circles and Missions. She never missed an opportunity to exercise her right to vote and she still held a copy of her and her husband's poll tax receipt. She was an avid reader, a skillful gardener, growing vegetables year-round, taking care of her flowers, and a superb cook and baker.

Flossie loved being with her family with Sunday dinners, where there was standing room only. She was the heartbeat of her home, being strong, compassionate, kind, and a caring child of God.

Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, Lonia and Garfield Hubbard, her husband, Wayne Wright Johnson, five siblings, Charles Hubbard, Electer McCrady, J.T. Hubbard, Gladys Hubbard, and grandson, Kevin Harper.
