Mrs. Denise Wheeler Sumuel
A Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend
Denise Sumuel was born July 13th, 1963 to the late William Summerall and Ruby Wheeler in New Orleans, La.
Denise’s journey in life brought her through so many memorable moments and blessings. She went back to school
in 1991 to pursue her GED and furthered her education in culinary arts at Louisiana State University. She worked at Lafon Nursing Home in New Orleans, La for 10 years as a Ward Clerk and brought joy and inspiration to the residents and her colleagues.
In the spring of 1994, Denise met the love of her life, Brian C. Sumuel. After 1 year of courtship, the two became one on March 18th, 1995.
In 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, Denise and her family relocated to Houston, Texas where she lived out the remainder of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandkids. Denise loved to cook, listen to great music, dance, and watch football, especially the New Orleans Saints.
She will always be remembered as having strong faith and inspiring anyone, even strangers with her warm loving personality. On August 29th, 2022 God called his angel home to rest. Denise is proceeded in death by her son Joshua Chanzy, nephew Roshawn Wheeler, and three brothers Mickey, William, and Petey Summerall.
Memories will be cherished forever by her loving and devoted husband of 27 years, Brian C. Sumuel; daughters: Brittany and Latonia Sumuel; two granddaughters: Jordyn Phillips and Kyonna Chanzy; one grandson: Elias Chanzy; daughter-in-law: Genifer Chanzy; son-in-law: Alvin Hughes; three sisters: Darlene Wheeler, Vanessa Wheeler and Vanessa George; one brother: Mark Wheeler, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
