Mrs. Authur Lou Shelvin

Mrs. Authur Lou Shelvin

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend

I was born Authur Lou Truitt on October 27, 1933 the second of five children to the late Freddie Truitt and Lucy Goldfaith.

I attend Alief Elementary School in Alief, TX. During my high school years, I attended and graduated from Jack Yates High School. I later met and married Albert Shelvin. To this union three children were born: Barbara Anne, James Charles, and Albert Jr.

I enjoyed being a caregiver to my children which lead me to work with several families. I also became a Certified Nursing Aide and worked for over 40 years in the nursing industry at Spring Branch, Stoney Brook, and Blalock Health Care Centers.

I accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Prairie Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Clinton Lee. I later joined Greater Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church (GMP) under the leadership of the late Reverend O. C. Johnson and the current Pastor George E. Hill. While attending GMP, I served in the Mission Sisterhood and supported the choir under the leadership of the late Reverend D. F. Curtis and Reverend G. E. Hill until my health began to decline.

My favorite songs were Precious Lord and Amazing Grace. My favorite scripture is Psalms 23: 1 - 6 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." KJV

I'm preceded in death by my son James Charles Shelvin; two sisters Dorothy Gordon and Hazel Crosby; two brothers Freddie L. Truitt and Robert L. Truitt; and one step-brother Reverend Albert Kelly.
