Mr. Zachary Glenn Spears
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend
Zachary Glenn Spears was born on June 14, 1962, to Willie Clyde Spears and Betha Mae Ellis Spears in Houston, TX. He was affectionately called “Zach”.
He often shared childhood stories about growing up in a large family which included laughter and love. He learned the importance of family early in life.
He attended HISD schools, Douglas MacArthur Elementary, Fairchild Elementary, Albert Thomas Junior High, and graduated with Class of 1981 from Jesse H. Jones Senior High School.
As a youth, Zach confessed Christ and was active and baptized at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where the late Rev. E.L. Burnside was the pastor. Zachary was active and he enjoyed serving as an usher.Later, he joined in membership with Clubcreek New Life Community Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Ralph M. Crowder. At CCNLCBC, he participated with Men of Life Ministry.
On February 14th, 1990, Zachary united in holy matrimony with Mary Ruth Elzy. This past Valentine’s Day, they celebrated 36 years of marital bliss “and more”. Their union was blessed with a loving daughter, LaKisha Lucas “Baby Girl”, and a beloved son, Zachary Marcquis Spears “Lil Zach”. He made his family a priority. He was a good husband, a loving father, and great grandfather.
Zach’s work ethics were unmatched. He learned the trade of Bartending. He honed his skills involving preparing and serving beverages, maintaining bar inventory, and providing great customer service in various venues. He became quite the mixologist. He gained employment with the Lakeside Country Club (a private membership event space in West Houston), and later, Aramark Houston (a food service and facilities management organization) working at the then Minute Maid Park, and later, NRG Stadium for the Rodeo Houston, Houston Texans, and other private events. He loved his job. He worked for Aramark for 20 plus years until he had a decline in health.
He enjoyed watching all sports; however, he was especially excited and devoted to the Houston teams of Astros baseball and Texans football. He was an avid dominoes player, movie watcher, and he so enjoyed traveling.
Zachary remained active until his health began to fail in 2022, through it all Zach’s spirits remained high, encouraged, and upbeat. His simple satisfaction was a good old home-cooked meal by his loving wife. Zachary Glenn Spears answered the Lord’s call gracefully and peacefully on March 14, 2026. His memory will live on in the lives of his family and those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Clyde Eugene Spears, and Bertrane Ray Spears; and granddaughter, Kennady Ann Lucas.
