Mr. Tyrone Carrie

Mr. Tyrone Carrie

Beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend

Tyrone Carrie, Sr. was born on August 10, 1956, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of the late Dorothy Jean “Momma Dot” & Isadore Carrie, Sr.
Tyrone was educated in the New Orleans public school system, attending Mc Donogh #24 Elementary School, McMain Jr. High School, and Alcee Fortier Sr. High School, where he graduated in 1975. In 1976, he left New Orleans to attend Texas Southern University, making Houston his “home away from home”. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Houston and held positions at various stations including Bear Creek, D. Moss Station, among others.
In 1985, Tyrone welcomed his first and only son, Tyrone Carrie, Jr., a moment of profound joy. In 2024, the birth of his first grandchild, Journi, bought him tremendous pride. Tyrone was so excited to become a grandfather that he shared the news with all of his brothers and sisters.
Tyrone enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing the lottery scratch-offs and celebrated more than a few lucky wins over the years. He also cherished playing dominos with his nephews, brother-in-law, and friends. A true New Orleans native, his favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints. He had a classic love-hate relationship with them – full of enthusiasm when they won and full of candid commentary when they didn’t.
In 2010, Tyrone was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. His sisters immediately traveled to Houston to support him, get him to specialists, and pray wholeheartedly for his healing. Although his body faced many challenges, he continued to push forward. By June 2023, his health declined significantly, and his family made frequent trips to Houston to be with him – praying with him encouraging him, and loving him through every moment. The family remained united, just as their mother, “Momma Dot”, had taught them.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy Jean and Isadore Carrie Sr.; his older brother: Isadore Carrie, Jr.; and his grandparents: Ara and George Popps, and Leola and Ernest Carrie, Sr.
