Mr. Roy McMiller
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend
On March 28, 1946, in a small town lined with dirt roads and filled with dreams, a baby boy was born to Roy and Erma McMiller. They named him Roy McMiller, Jr....a name that would come to represent strength, second chances, and legacy. From the beginning, Roy carried the weight of responsibility with the heart of a lion. As the oldest of nine siblings, he became a provider by age 8 - driving his uncle’s trucks, hustling for work, and helping put food on the table. He stepped into adult shoes long before most boys even knew they existed. By the age of 15, thanks to the love and support of his Aunt Liz, Roy bought his first vehicle. That wasn’t just a car - it was a symbol of independence and the first major step in a journey filled with hard work and ambition. He used it to expand his reach, serve more clients, and build the foundation of what would later become his business legacy. Roy’s hustle showed up early. He worked underage at a local café, wiping tables, pouring coffee, and earning every dollar with grit and pride. It was around that same time that he picked up a pool stick and never looked back. He wasn’t just good - he was great. Roy became a local legend in the pool halls, clearing tables with confidence and often walking away with everyone’s money. It wasn’t just a game, it was his hustle, it was precision, it was Roy.
Loves & Hobbies
Roy loved the grind. He had a passion for making money, finding opportunity, and staying on the move. Whether he was shooting pool, catching a movie, or sharing stories with friends and family, Roy brought energy and swagger everywhere he went. He had charm, confidence, and a sharp mind that always kept him one step ahead.
A Love Story for the Ages
One day, Roy pulled up in his big black truck, lovingly named, “High Mama.” As he looked out, he saw her: a beautiful young woman walking with her three-year-old child. Her name was Cheryl Lynn, and for Roy, it was love at first sight. That chance encounter sparked a love that would span for decades. They raised a strong family together, and weathered every season of life good or bad. Cheryl was his spouse, his partner, and the heart of his home.
The Builder, The Boss, The Legacy
Roy turned that same hustle and heart into a successful lawn service business that served his community for nearly 50 years. With five trucks and a skilled two-man crew, Roy tackled big projects and turned yards into masterpieces. His work spoke for itself. His hands built beauty, his name stood for quality, and his reputation earned loyalty. But Roy was more than just a businessman - he was a fixer. If something was broken, Roy could fix it. Cars, mowers, fences, faucets, you name it. And if he didn’t know how, he had the humility to ask, and the drive to learn. He believed in progress, not perfection. He lived to grow. His life wasn’t without hardship. He faced mistakes and even served time. But what made Roy great wasn’t his fall - it was his comeback. He came out a new man, determined to rebuild and to lead by example. His story is a living testimony that redemption is possible, that God can turn pain into purpose. Roy McMiller, Jr. was a devoted spouse to Cheryl, and a loving father to Cliff, Terrie, James, Vivian, Cherri, Tammy, Roy, and Roderick. He taught us how to work hard, love boldly, stand tall, and never give up.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents: Roy and Erma McMiller; and his dear siblings: Patsy Ann Foster, Linda Faye Green, Betty Jewell Harris, Terry, Larry, and Michael; and his mother-in-law: Creola Wilson.
