Mr. Larry Dale Adams
Beloved Brother, Friend, and Servant
Larry Dale Adams, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, after a life filled with music, adventure, and faith.
Born on December 18, 1948, in Houston, Texas, to Leman Adams and Mabel Robinson Adams, Larry grew up surrounded by family and community. He attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he was a popular member of the BTW Eagles band. His musical gifts shone brightly even then, as he played drums, piano, saxophone, and guitar. Yet it was the keyboard that became his lifelong passion—the instrument through which he expressed his soul.
After high school, Larry met and was briefly married to Audie Kellum. He then proudly served in the United States Navy, often recalling his many exciting adventures during his service. His stories of travel and camaraderie were shared with joy and humor throughout his life.
Following his Navy service, Larry joined Motown, where he and his band, The Houston Outlaws, performed alongside legendary artists such as: Edwin Starr, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and many more. He spoke fondly of his time on the road, cherishing the sights, sounds, and experiences that shaped his journey. Larry loved to reminisce, sharing his memories with doctors, nurses, family, friends, and anyone who spent more than a few minutes in his company.
Upon returning home, Larry became a devoted member of Faith Macedonia Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. V. Dones, serving faithfully as the church musician until his health began to decline. His music enriched worship and uplifted the congregation, leaving a lasting legacy of devotion and praise.
Larry lived a life full of wonder, adventure, challenge, and awe. He embraced each day with gratitude, often reminding those around him that he lived each day, “by the Grace of God.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audie Kellum, and his parents, Mabel and Leman Adams.
Larry’s life was a song—filled with rhythm, love, and grace. His music and spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul."
— Psalm 23:1-3
