Mrs. Lucille Marie Johnson Brown-Ross
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and Friend
Lucille Marie Johnson was born August 21, 1932, to the late Anderson and Laura Johnson of Sealy, Texas. She attended Red Top School, a notable landmark in Simonton, Texas, where she loved to read and collect books.
In 1951, Lucille met the love of her life, Edward Brown. To this union, 10 children were born, all in Simonton, Texas. She was a remarkable mother to her children, her kindness was infectious. She was a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of long life.
Throughout her life, Lucille was known for her acts of kindness and her Mission work throughout her neighborhood, where she would hold “yard service”, with her late sisters in Christ, Alice Lara, Lucy Felder, and Pearl Jones. Lucille did domestic work, with great pride, providing a variety of household services.
Lucille was a woman of strength and wisdom. She was passionate about God and used her gift to inspire others, and spread love and light throughout her community and beyond. She was not afraid to speak the truth, even if it hurt. She was resilient and refused to be navigated by fear and doubt.
She rose from adversity, but never forgot her origin. She knew where she’d been, where she was, and where she was headed. She was a warrior. A woman of faith, a woman of prayer, a woman of purpose; beautiful, strong, highly favored, wise, trustworthy, faithful, overcomer, kind, fruitful, and a woman of value. Above all, she was a woman of God! Lucille was a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest MBC under the late Pastor C.G. Wilkins, Abundant Harvest, Pastor Harold J. Marshall, and Friendship Community, Pastor Bobby Hamilton. Later in life, she would reunite with Pilgrim Rest MBC under the leadership of Pastor Daymond A. Wilkins.
Her legacy will live on through the memories we shared, and the values that she instilled in us, and the unconditional love that was given. We take solace in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with her loved ones who have gone on before her.
Lucille passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, surrounded by her family. Preceding her in death are her parents: Anderson and Laura; her children: Hester, Edward Earl, Laura, Don Michael, and Charles Richard; her grandchildren: Alton, Troy, William, and Bridgette; and her sister: Willa Jones.
